At Viking, giving back to the community is at the core of our values and culture. We believe in doing everything we can to help create better People, Places, and Communities.

Paying it Forward through Mentor-Protégé Relationships

The Port of Portland’s Mentor-Protégé Program is a nationally recognized small business development program designed to overcome barriers small businesses face when trying to do business with government agencies.

The three-year program pairs each protégé firm with two mentors who work with the small business to develop a strategic plan specific to the needs of the small business and overcome obstacles the firm is facing. The Port facilitates monthly team meetings and provides a wide array of free technical assistance during the firms’ participation in the program.

Viking graduated as a Protégé in 2017, and is now giving back to the Mentor-Protégé Program by acting as mentor to help the next generation of Protégés.

Kaiser Permanente MLK Volunteer Day

For over 15 years, Kaiser Permanente physicians, dentists and staff have celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day by making it a “day on” rather than a day off in Oregon and Southern Washington, rolling up their sleeves in remembrance of Dr. King’s commitment to community service. And for the last five years, Viking has helped to provide the materials, labor, and expertise to help them accomplish their mission.

In 2019, during the most recent day of service, more than 350 volunteers worked together to create bright and welcoming spaces for students to learn at Harold Oliver and Parklane elementary schools in Gresham, Oregon.

Some of the many more ways we work to give back to our community:

West Orient Middle School Harvest Hustle

Viking Engineering + Construction is an annual sponsor of West Orient Middle School’s Harvest Hustle, which helps raise money for basic classroom necessities, technology for enhanced learning, and school improvements.

Mt. Hood Medical Center Foundation

Viking is a sponsor of the Mount Hood Medical Center Foundation’s annual The Drive benefit golf tournament, helping to ensure that East County’s only full-service community hospital can continue to provide excellent care to this vulnerable community.
