You can sign up for a free-tier Smartsheet account just using your email address. With a free tier, you will be able to view and edit existing sheets created licensed (paid) users, but you will not be able to create your own new sheets.

In order to cut down on costs, we use a limited number of “licensed” (paid) accounts that are shared among departments. If you believe you need a paid account, please contact your department manager to discuss your needs.
